The City of Harare has confirmed an outbreak of bedbugs, locally known as “tsikidzi,” in the high-density suburb of Mbare. The news prompted authorities to swiftly launch an emergency pest control response to mitigate the situation and prevent further spread.

The outbreak has raised concerns among residents, who are worried about the potential health implications and discomfort caused by the pests. Bedbugs are notorious for their ability to infest homes, hotels, and public spaces, feeding on human blood and causing skin irritation.
Starting Monday, 7 April 2025, city authorities will implement measures to control the outbreak, including fumigation and public education campaigns. Residents are advised to cooperate with authorities and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of bedbugs in their homes and communities.
