#MCM: Beaven Sibanda – Flyweight Boxer

Beaven Sibanda, affectionately known as “The One” in the boxing world, has risen to become a monumental figure in Zimbabwean sports. At just 23 years old, Sibanda has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Zimbabwean flyweight boxer to claim an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Minimum Weight championship title. This remarkable achievement took place in South Africa, where he delivered a stunning fifth-round knockout against the Philippines’ Richard Garde in a 12-round bout.

Sibanda’s journey to championship status is a tale of dedication, resilience, and tireless hard work. Originally a karate champion and the Junior Sportsman of the Year in Zimbabwe in 2016, Sibanda transitioned into boxing after being inspired by watching Floyd Mayweather. His determination saw him quickly rise through the ranks, training at the renowned Brian Mitchell Boxing Academy Gym in South Africa under Coach Vusi, and receiving crucial promotion support from Golden Gloves Promotions.
