Throwback Thursday: Back in 2010, Tocky Vibes, at just 15 years old, became part of the Vigilance stable. It’s widely believed that Tocky was the first artist in Zimbabwe to be signed by Winky D DiBigman’s stable, Vigilance music.

The Kambuzuma-based artiste said he recorded his first demo which caught the eye of Winky D. At that time no one expected the demo recorded at a backyard studio to go viral.

“Things were tough at the time when I recorded my first demo using the world cup riddim. I came up with a song entitled ‘‘Tinovakwadza’’ which impressed Winky D’s Vigilance stable. They offered to give me a chance to record,” he said.

Tocky said in 2010 he was able to record through Vigilance Music a track titled “Tirikumanya” which received generous air play on the airwaves.

Later, He also said after his second project which saw him release a track entitled “Vavengi”. His parents sent him to stay at his rural home in Masvingo so that they can separate him from his passion for music.

“I was sent to our rural home in chivi because they did not want me to sing. Winky D called me during my stay at Chivi asking me to come back to Harare to record more tracks. I was surprised one day listening to the radio feeling my own tune being aired at local stations,” he added.
